The Konigsberg was a 4.1 inch gunned cruiser & was on East Africa station at the outbreak of WWI. She was sunk by 2 British monitors, Severn & Mersey, in 1915. Ten guns were demounted and pulled inland for use as artillery by General von Lettow-Vorbeck (20 March 1870 – 9 March 1964), popularly known as the Lion of Africa . One of the guns was later melted down and turned into coin.
