Comment

This coins is called Sterntaler - Blood Dollar. Among other things, the Sterntalers were used to compensate families whose sons had fallen in the American War of Independence. Based on this macabre background, the fairy tale of the Sterntalern, which the Grimm brothers wrote in the Kassel area, was created. Landgrave Frederick II took great subsidies from the English for soldiers whom he leased to them. Therefore, in American collectors circles the Sterntaler are also called "Blooddollar".
