Comment

Referenced 8d by Thomas C. DAY in his "CASINO TOKENS OF MONTE-CARLO" catalog.

Also available with a hole, which suggests that it may have been pierced to be worn as a pendant, but more precise information proves that this piercing was originally present when the tokens were made to enable them to be threaded onto storage pins.

According to the Cercle d'Études Historiques et Archéologiques (CEHA) de Poissy, it also exists in very small quantities.
Single-sided obverse with the word "essai" and the name of the engraver

Uniface reverse test piece with the word "essai" debossed, without the engraver's name
With a 3mm hole in the center and the engraver's name
