The Argentine Fishing Company was started by the British-Norwegian whaler and Antarctic explorer Carl Anton Larsen in 1904. The company organized the building of Grytviken, the first land-based whaling station in Antarctica. The company ceased operations on South Georgia in 1960, selling the Grytviken whaling station to Albion Star Ltd.
