The pit Alexandria, full name (1917) Westerwälder Lignitflammkohlen-Bergwerk Gewerkschaft Alexandria (the trade union) was a coal mine at Höhn in the Westerwald (Rheinland-Pfalz). The pit was the largest and most important of the Westerwald lignite mining area. At peak times, in the 1920s, the union Alexandria employed about 1,000 people and produced more than 150,000 tons of coal per year. The pit was shut down in 1961.
