Comment

Łaszczów is a small town of around 2,500 inhabitants in the Tomaszów Lubelski County, in eastern Poland. The first remark concerning Łaszczów is from 1549, and the town has been called Łaszczów since 1553; that is the year when King Zygmunt August granted the privilege to constitute a town.

During the 17th century Łaszczów was an important centre of the Polish Reformation movement. There was an Aryan church and a printing house (open until 1630). In 1603 the town received the right to hold markets and fairs from King Zygmunt III.

In 1772, as a result of the Partitions of Poland, Łaszczów was annexed by Austria. In 1805 the town was in the Duchy of Warsaw, and in 1815 was returned to the Kingdom of Poland. However, the city was deprived of the municipal rights in 1869.

During the Second World War, the city was occupated for a short period of time by the Germans, but was promptly liberated by the Polish army in 1944.

It was re-established as a town on 1 January 2010.
