The term rubber duck in trucking means a new trucker or rookie, someone still learning the ropes. Its believed this silver round is designed after the classic 1978 movie Convoy, directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Kris Kristoffenson. The movie was released when the CB radio/trucking craze was at its peak in the United States. Krisoffenson played the character Martin ‘Rubber Duck’ Penwald. Despite mixed reviews on its initial release, Convoy was a commercial success and has become a cult movie among its followers.
