The Liberty Mint was a private mint based in Provo Utah USA. The Mint began operations in 1984 and was initially owned by Howard and Larry Ruff. Howard Joseph Ruff was a financial adviser and writer of the pro-hard money investing newsletter The Ruff Times. The Ruffs sold off the Mint in 1989 where after it was incorporated in the State of Colorado the following year as St. Joseph Corp. VI.
St. Joseph Corp. VI changed its name to Petrosavers International in 1993 and to Hana Acquisitions, Inc in 1996. The Company reverted back to the name Liberty Mint, Ltd in 1997 before ceasing operations in 1999.
The primary business of the Liberty Mint during the early years was bullion silver products. These were produced on a limited basis for precious metal investors and was the mainstay of the business from 1984 to 1987. The rounds were minted with pure .999 fine silvers and varied from business-strikes to proof-like finish.
