In 2001, the Fête de la Bonneville was held on the site of this ancient village to commemorate its destruction in 1301. To mark the occasion, coins were minted to pay at the festival site.
On 12 December 1295, the lords of Valangin, who were contesting the suzerainty of the Counts of Neuchâtel, gave La Bonneville to the Bishop of Basel free of charge. On 28 February 1296, the Count of Neuchâtel, Rodolphe IV, felt he had been wronged and launched an expedition. The troops disembarked near Coffrane and the lords of Valangin were defeated and taken prisoner. A new attempt by the Bishop of Basel to control Valangin led to the capture and destruction of La Bonneville by Rodolphe IV on 28 April 1301 (Maurice Evard, 2016).
