Comment

UNION COMMERCIALE was founded in 1895 in Villenoy les Meaux. It was later taken over by COMPTOIRS MODERNES in Le Mans, which in turn was bought by CARREFOUR ...
These tokens were probably issued during the First World War. They bear not only a value, but also a correspondence referring to a "BON" whose value by deduction must have been 5 francs. The values found: 20c, 50c, 1F, 2F, certainly do not represent the full range in which we would expect to find, at least, 10c and 5F.
To date, we can only speculate on their use. Was it "change" given out, the accumulation of which made it possible to have a 5F voucher that could be exchanged for a "real" 5F bill, or was it simply an internal "currency" of the establishment?(source)
