Comment

This coin commemorates the 1250th anniversary of the town of Kollum, located in the north-east of Friesland, the Netherlands.

Technically the town was called Colheim and originated around the year 750, but later it was renamed to Kollumerterp. The region is famous for switching hands between Groningen and Friesland a few times over during the reign of Saxen and a rebellion against the French in 1797 because of resistance concerning the disarmamant of the local militia.
