Comment

The rail system started in the 1800s and was expanded to the point it essentially encircled the island in response to the demand for sugar cane processing. Transportation of people diminished as busing systems expanded, as well as to the U.S. and Puerto Rican government's heavy investment in interstate highways and freeways.
