Comment

The 2018-2021 issues are a four year series that focuses on the international use of the ducats over four centuries. They use the points of the compass as a guide to explore the trade routes in which the Gold Ducats played an important role.
2018: north to the Baltics, where the grain trade in particular led to enormous profits for Dutch traders.
2019: east to Asia, where in addition to the Dutch trading outpost of Batavia (Indonesia), the Dutch East India Company (VOC) founded many different trading posts in several countries.
2020: south to South Africa with many agricultural and gold mine interests.
2021: west to the new world of the Americas especially the West Indies where the Dutch explored in the 16th-17th century.
