The China General Omnibus Company, incorporated in Hong Kong in 1923, operated bus services in Shanghai. It ran bus routes in the International Settlement and beyond. The first routes were opened in 1924, and there were increase to about 20 lines in the 1930s.
In 1940, these pieces were issued primarily for general circulation as small change, which had disappeared after the Japanese occupied Shanghai in 1937. The initials are those of the manager, John D. Shotter.
